The roots of the Poovathinkal family is in Kerala, India. We are a family of ordinary people. So they are not famous or the picture is not in the history books. They faced challenges and threats to family, wealth and faith with courage and determination. We are the living witness of their courage and hardwork.

Our family history is closely related to what happened in India especially in Kerala. We do not have much information upto 15th century. Since then many invaders came with different motives. Some loot us, some stayed and some ruled us. In the meantime, once a prosperous country became a poor country. Famine, harsh weather and ruthless invaders had a huge impact on the life of ordinary people. Many families had to move time after time and left behind relatives and friends.

One of the major events in history of Kerala is the arrival of Christian missionaries. As a traditional Catholic family, the history of Christianity in Kerala also has to be looked into when tracing our family roots.
